Wireless Network
Find out more
IT Services provide several wireless networks at Loughborough University. Each is intended for a specific purpose or customer group:
-
lboro
This is our preferred wireless network for Loughborough University staff and students. It offers the highest levels of security and network access equivalent to a traditional wired network connection. Instructions for connecting your wireless device are available at www.lboro.ac.uk/it/wireless/connecting.html. We recommend that you use lboro if your equipment supports it.
-
lboro-web
This wireless network is suitable for all devices, but offers only limited network access. You do not require any special settings or software to use the lboro-web network, but will only be able to use it for casual Web browsing. When you begin your lboro-web session, you will be required to supply your Loughborough University user name and password. We expect to withdraw lboro-web in time, as older devices that do not support lboro are replaced or upgraded. You should take care to study our Wireless Best Practice Guide www.lboro.ac.uk/it/wireless/best-practice.html when using lboro-web.
You will also see other wireless networks available around the University:
-
eduroam

The eduroam confederation www.eduroam.org is an international initiative that aims to provide you with Internet access when you are visiting other academic institutions in the U.K. and abroad, and give your academic visitors Internet access in return. Loughborough University operates the JANET Roaming Service www.ja.net/services/authentication-and-authorisation/janet-roaming.html, which is the branch of eduroam servicing the U.K. Further and Higher Education community. Our Academics Visiting Loughborough web pages provide more information.
-
imago
This is a wireless network for imago conference delegates. This is available at the same locations as the University wireless network service.
