IT Support Staff
Planned service interruptions and other service changes are notified to IT staff in departments via the IT-Information list. You can join the list by e-mailing R.S.M.Kirkwood@lboro.ac.uk; then you may also view the archive of this list. We also provide an archive of news items.
Our Technical Forum Groups (https://internal.lboro.ac.uk/diss/cc/uniwide/Technical%20Forum%20Group/) are intended to bring together members of the IT community across the University to network, to share knowledge and experiences and to learn.
You will also find our Requirements for IT support representatives (www.lboro.ac.uk/it/desktop/reps-xp/requirements.html) and Information for them on Staff Desktop XP (www.lboro.ac.uk/it/desktop/reps-xp/), Printing (www.lboro.ac.uk/it/support/printing.html), and Security (www.lboro.ac.uk/it/security/).
Follow the Administration and Policies link www.lboro.ac.uk/it/support/admin.html for further information on how we work together with the University. You should be aware of the Policies and Procedures (www.lboro.ac.uk/it/policies/) including our Acceptable Use Policy (www.lboro.ac.uk/it/policies/loughborough-aup.html) and how to implement it (www.lboro.ac.uk/it/policies/aupprocedures.html).
The "Getting help" link www.lboro.ac.uk/it/help.html provides an index of Frequently Asked Questions and other helpful material.
The JANET Roaming Service is designed so that members of participating Higher Education Institutions can gain access to our services www.lboro.ac.uk/it/eduroam/index.html, and members of this University can gain access to services when visiting other participating Higher Education Institutions www.lboro.ac.uk/it/eduroam-us/index.html. It can also be used for gaining access to Wireless Networks in the University.
Firewall rules are a "Default Deny" ruleset with specific holes for the services registered with ourselves. The firewall rules only concern incoming TCP connections, by default we are blocking all incoming TCP connections from the Internet (not on campus) in a similar way to the HallNet service. To register your server for different rules, or to change or view your current registration(s), please use the Firewall Registration System at https://register.lboro.ac.uk/. Please note that new rules will not become live until a member of IT Services has scanned the machine and, if you are a member of the Social Sciences and Humanities faculty (S.S.H.), Phil Wilkinson-Blake the Director of IT S.S.H. has authorised the rule.
