IT services unavailability
Update Thursday 28 August 2008
We have now completed last night's work on the storage system and have restored IT services. We have captured lots of diagnostic data and this is now being analysed by our hardware suppliers. Unfortunately, the underlying problem has not been solved. We will give you an update on this when we have more details. In the meantime, please report any problems with the IT systems to the IT Services Service Desk in the usual way.
We apologise for the disruption this essential diagnostic work has caused.
IT service down-time: Wednesday 27 August 2008 from 5:15 p.m.
We have an on-going technical issue with the storage system that underpins most of the University's major IT Services. Although this is not affecting user-service at present, we must have it resolved before going into start of term or services could become unstable. In order to carry out further diagnostics and try to solve the underlying issue, our hardware supplier needs us to arrange an evening down-time on the system. We are proposing to do this from 5:15 p.m. next Wednesday (27th August 2008). While we appreciate there is never a good time to have IT services unavailable, this diagnostic systems work needs to be carried out as soon as possible and we believe that next Wednesday is likely to be one of the quieter days on campus.
The following services will be unavailable for around two hours, but should be considered 'at risk' all evening:
-
E-mail,
-
E-mail archive,
-
Staff Individual Filestore (U: drives),
-
Staff Shared Filestore (Y: drives),
-
Departmental filestore held on central services e.g. Estates X: drive,
-
Student Individual Filestore (U: drives),
-
Student Group Filestore,
-
Staff Apps (old CIS application),
-
Learn service,
-
Staff and Student Home Pages,
-
Labs ghost images.
If your department has a serious concern with the timing of this work, please contact the IT Services Helpdesk extension 2320 or IT.Services@lboro.ac.uk so that we can look at ways for you to work around the down-time or, exceptionally, rearrange this essential systems work.
Regards,
IT Services
