ActiveSync 4.5
Introduction
Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 is now available as an optional application for all staff desktop users. ActiveSync 4.5 is for Windows Mobile Powered Devices and enables synchronization with Windows PC's and Microsoft Outlook.
Minimum Requirements on the Staff Desktop Service

Installing ActiveSync 4.5 and Configuring via a USB Cable Connection
Note: Before installing ActiveSync make sure your windows mobile device is switched on and connected to a spare USB port on your machine.

Click Start.

Settings.
-
Control Panel.

Select Add or Remove Programs.

Click Add New Programs.

-
Locate Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 - Install \ Remove

Click Add

-
Click Yes to start the installation.

ActiveSync 4.5 begins to install.

Once installation is complete you are then prompted to reboot the machine.

Click Yes.
Once you have logged back into the computer, launch ActiveSync by:

Start.
-
Programs.
-
Microsoft ActiveSync.
Once ActiveSync is launched the installer program runs again for each user the first time they launch ActiveSync. Once ActiveSync has configured the users profile the install is fully complete.

Select Standard Partnership

Click Next
-
Select Synchronize with this Desktop Computer.

Click Next
-
Select Yes, I want to Synchronize with only this computer unless you want to keep any existing partnerships.

Click Next
-
Tick the type of information you want to synchronise.

Click Next
-
Click on Finish to complete the setup.

ActiveSync will now synchronize.
Configuring a BlueTooth Connection to ActiveSync 4.5
It is recommended that mobile devices are connected via a USB connection rather than a wireless Bluetooth connection as it is easier to set up, more secure and faster to synchronise.
Note: These instructions use the HTC TyTN II Windows Mobile Device. If you are using another device the configuration will be similar but not identical.

Click Start
-
Settings
-
Select Control Panel

Choose Bluetooth Devices.

Select the Options tab.
-
Tick the box Turn Discovery On.

Select COM Ports tab
-
Click Add
-
Choose Incoming (device initiates the connection).

Click OK
Windows will find a new device (The COM Port that you just created) and you should see the following.

Launch ActiveSync
From the menu bar:

Select File.

Connection Settings
The Connection Settings window is displayed.

Change the COM port to the one you created earlier.

On the device turn on Bluetooth.

Select the Devices tab and click Add New Device.

Once your PC has been detected select it and click Next.

Enter a passcode.
-
Click Next
The PC will alert you that a connection is being requested.

Click on the message to accept it.
-
Enter the Passcode that you entered on the device.

Click Next.
-
Click Finish
-
Ensure that the ActiveSync Service on the device is now available and checked.

Select the Com Ports tab. Confirm that an incoming Port was created and click OK.

Open ActiveSync.

Click Menu and select Connect via Bluetooth.
The Windows Mobile Device will attempt to synchronise.

On the PC the ActiveSync window should now show the synchronisation progress.

Synchronisation complete.

Note: That if the PC or Laptop gets rebooted you will need to re-establish the Bluetooth connection. To do this follow steps 26 and 27.
