Student E-mail
Student E-mail Information
Your University E-mail Address
IT Services ensures that all students have an e-mail account which can be accessed from the Web, in Labs and via the Hall Service.
Your e-mail address is made up of initials and surname with full stops between and after the initials. Sometimes, to avoid ambiguity a number is placed at the end. This is followed by a hyphen and the last two digits of the year you arrived (e.g. -08). This is then followed by: student.lboro.ac.uk. For example:
A.Persson-08@student.lboro.ac.uk
M.Ali2-08@student.lboro.ac.uk
Note: the absence of spaces or other extra punctuation. If your name is, for example, T. O'Brian, your e-mail address will be T.OBrian-08@lboro.ac.uk. The distinction between upper and lower case letters (capitals and small) is always ignored.
Using our Web Based Emailer: IMP
A web based mail service https://student-webmail.lboro.ac.uk/webmail/ is available to all students and is designed to enable you to read your University e-mail whilst on or off campus.
When you use IMP (Internet Messaging Program), you will need to key in your login id (usually dept code plus your initials) and your password. IMP then displays all the mail waiting for you on the mail server. IMP also has facilities for setting signatures and storing contact names.
Finding Students' or Staff Addresses
The easiest method, perhaps, is to use the Address Book Search facility in IMP.
-
Click Address Book to display the Address Book screen.
-
Click Search from the Address Book screen.
-
From the Find drop-down menu select Name (the most useful) or Email.
-
In the Matching entry, enter what you are searching for - probably the surname of the person.
-
In the From drop-down menu, select Loughborough Staff or Loughborough Students (to search the appropriate directory).
-
Double-click the Search button.
-
If the search does not find the required person, click the Clear Search link before attempting a new search (otherwise the next search results will be added to this search).
-
If the search of a directory has found the appropriate person, click their Name link to add them to your contacts list.

Disk Usage Limitations
Students on taught courses - you should restrict your total mailstore on the central server to a maximum of 200Mbytes. Deliberate action on your part to deny service to others would be treated as a disciplinary matter under our acceptable use policy - see www.lboro.ac.uk/it/policies/loughborough-aup.html. If you receive an e-mail about your disk usage, it is important that you act on it.
-
Students can check the total size of their mailstore https://student-webmail.lboro.ac.uk/cgi-bin/mydiskusage.pl.
