Computer Labs
Information for Lecturers
Booking a Lab
Computer Labs are booked by the central room booking system. The bookings are recorded in the Rooms database to which your Departmental Administrative Assistant should have access. All requests for bookings during teaching times should be made to Room Bookings in Media Services via rooms@lboro.ac.uk. IT Services (extension 2320, or e-mail IT.Services@lboro.ac.uk) should be contacted for requirements outside teaching time. Information on existing Lab bookings is available at https://internal.lboro.ac.uk/diss/avs/uniwide/LabReports/ (restricted).
Projection Facilities
All major teaching labs are equipped with a screen projection devices. These are either video projection units or an LCD screen that can be used in conjunction with a Overhead Projection unit. These will display the screen from a P.C. or Apple Macintosh.
Sound Systems
Hearing systems for the hard of hearing and public address systems have been installed in our five largest labs - BE025, N326, XX031, S006 and T210. Lecturers should contact us via the Service Desk on 2320 to ensure that you are briefed on how to use the equipment.
Requesting Software
IT Services undertakes to license, install and maintain all software in IT Services Labs that supports our core service as agreed under budgeting procedures. We cannot fund software licenses that are of use to only one department. However, if software has been purchased by a department or individual we can consider installing it in a Lab. Any software that has a specific function, as opposed to a general or generic one (e.g. Microsoft Office), should normally be funded from departments or faculties with that specific interest. IT Services can act as a broker and co-ordinator of funding arrangements. After an evaluation, we will consider supporting software depending on staff resources to install and maintain the configuration required for the software. There are some exceptions to the above, which continue purely as a result of previous policy which was more liberal. When such exceptions expire, replacements will be assessed under the current policy.
An annual consultation with departments takes place to determine software to be installed over the summer vacation. In the meantime, if you would like additional items of software installing in a particular lab, please contact IT.Services@lboro.ac.uk. Please note, however, that a notice of at least 6 to 8 weeks is required and departments are required to fund licences for specialist software.
