Windows Vista Network Settings
The following guide is designed to configure Microsoft Windows Vista network settings to work at Loughborough University.

Firstly click the Windows logo located at the bottom left of the screen, and select Control Panel.

Once within Control Panel, double click on Network and Sharing Center.

Once within the Network and Security Center dialogue box, click the View Status link.

Next you will be faced with the Local Area Connection Status dialogue box. Click the Properties button. As you can see from the Properties button, the Windows Security Logo is present - this indicates that to proceed any further you will need administrative privileges.

You will be prompted by UAC (User Access Control) prompt asking either to supply the username and password for an administrative user or you will not be allowed to continue.

Next you will be faced with a Local Area Connection Properties dialogue box. Firstly under This connection uses the following items: ensure that Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) is not checked and select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then select Properties.

The will bring up the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties dialogue box. Ensure that Obtain an IP address automatically is selected, and that Obtain DNS server address automatically is selected as well. Then click Advanced.

Once in the advanced section, select DNS from the tabs available along the top of the dialogue box.

Once in the DNS dialogue box, ensure that Register this connection's address in DNS is not selected and then press OK.

Select OK to all prompts and close all dialogue boxes.
