Setting up Outlook 2003 at home for those NOT using Staff Desktop service
Introduction
If you are using this off-campus, these instructions assume that you already have an account with an Internet Service Provider which is correctly working.
These instructions are intended for your own computer, and must not be used for Outlook installed on a Staff Desktop laptop at home.

Ensure that the General tab is selected.

Although it is possible to save your password in the e-mail client such that you will not be asked to enter the password each time you read your e-mail, IT Services do not recommend this on grounds of security. It is particularly important not to allow the client to save your e-mail password when installing on a client machine which may be used by other people, as to do so could inadvertently give others access to your University e-mail account violating both the University Acceptable Use Policy (as at www.lboro.ac.uk/it/policies/loughborough-aup.html), and UK Data Protection legislation (see www.lboro.ac.uk/admin/ar/policy/dpact/index.htm).

Additional Notes

If you get an error message when trying to open Microsoft Outlook for the first time after configuring and installing the CommuniGate Pro plugin e.g. "Unable to create destination folder C:\Docume~1\username\local~1\temp\cgmxp32.dll", you will need to alter your McAfee anti-virus settings on your machine. To do this, please try the following:
-
Open the McAfee VirusScan Console via Start then All Programs, click Network Associates and then VirusScan Console.

-
Ensure Access Protection is highlighted in the Task list then click Task on the menu and select Properties.
-
Select the File, Share, and Folder Protection tab.

-
Uncheck the Prevent Outlook from launching anything from the Temp folder rule.
-
Click Apply and OK.
You should now be able to open Microsoft Outlook with your new Loughborough University e-mail profile.
