Registration, Passwords, and De-registration
Registration
Staff on the monthly payroll and registered students of the University are automatically registered for a range of University IT services www.lboro.ac.uk/it/policies/registration.html#list and given a University user name, password, and e-mail address. Undergraduate students will normally be given these by their academic department. Otherwise, please contact our Service Desk - telephone 2320 or e-mail IT.Services@lboro.ac.uk.
Passwords
Staff and Students are advised to change your password regularly when you receive it and keep it secret to yourself thereafter. Divulging your password to another person (except trusted members of IT staff) is a breach of our Acceptable Use Policy www.lboro.ac.uk/it/policies/loughborough-aup.html. See our further advice on passwords www.lboro.ac.uk/it/doc/guidance.html, and details on Changing Passwords https://pass.lboro.ac.uk/.
When we register you, we also provide you with an Athens www.lboro.ac.uk/library/resources/athens.html username and password, which provides access to a variety of nationally provided data sources (Library databases). See also Athens Terms and Conditions st www.lboro.ac.uk/it/policies/athens.html.
Check your original Athens password at http://learn.lboro.ac.uk/blocks/staff_student_resources/athpass.php. You must log in after clicking on the link to see your original Athens password. If you change your Athens password then this link will not show you the changed password.
Change your Athens password at http://auth.athensams.net/my/ (you will need your current Athens username and password).

For some purposes, and usually subject to a charge, we will register people who are not University staff or students, including:
-

-
employees of sports bodies located on campus and working in partnership with the University,
-
delegates to educational or research conferences,

those attending short courses,

students of other educational establishments and sporting organisations.
Not all services will be available, in particular the electronic information services provided by the library are restricted to University staff and students due to licensing restrictions. For full details of conditions and charges, see our registration policy www.lboro.ac.uk/it/policies/registration.html.
De-Registration
When staff are removed from our systems their e-mail is deleted. No archive is kept. We normally keep e-mail for at least one month after the registration terminates, but if disk space is scarce we will delete the mail immediately. Staff who are leaving, who have e-mail which should be retained by the University, should please contact their department IT staff in the first instance for assistance. When your account is removed from our systems your individual file store (U: drive) is also deleted.
If you had to request registration it is your responsibility to let us know when your association with the University ceases.
See our further details on deactivation of user accounts www.lboro.ac.uk/it/policies/registration.html#cease.
