Prerequisites
First Step
If you have an IT Support Representative, please contact them as they should be able to guide you through the process. If not, please read the following instructions; if you have any queries regarding this, please contact IT.Services@lboro.ac.uk.
Prerequisites
The user
The user should be a registered computer user at the University. If not then the department should liase with personnel to get them registered if they are a permanent member of staff, or should talk to IT Services about getting them registered manually if there is a valid reason for them to be registered without being on the University's salaried payroll.
The hardware

A network point must exist where the machine is to be placed. To apply for a new network connection.

The machine must be unpacked and in place.

The Operating System must be installed and machine must boot-up without any errors.

The Ethernet card must be installed and configured.

Printers - If you have a new printer which is to be networked then a separate request should be made to IT Services regarding getting this set up. Please complete the Printer Request Form.

Portables must be regularly and reasonably frequently connected to the University network.
If you purchase a P.C. from one of the University's preferred PC suppliers, they will deliver it with the University's agreed configuration ready for the Windows XP Staff Desktop Service to be installed by your IT representative. However, if you purchase a Notebook computer this will not be the case (as the models change so frequently); your IT Representative will still be able to install the service for you. In order meet the legal requirements of Campus Agreement you must posess a Microsoft Operating System Licence for the machine.
