IT Support Staff - Staff Desktop XP Support
What we need you to do
Supporting the Service
The Staff Desktop Service is designed so that all users connected to it have a standardised configuration with machines in a known state. This enables upgrades to go ahead and greatly simplifies trouble-shooting.
It is important that IT Staff maintain the standardisation of the service so that a high level of support can be maintained, and encourage service users to follow best practice www.lboro.ac.uk/it/desktop/best-practice.html.
In situations where problems need to be escalated to IT Services this should usually be done by the relevant local IT Staff so that a proper description of the problem and attempted fixes can be supplied.
Security patching
It is important that any computer which has missed security patches (has not been in use, or has not been online etc.) is patched as soon as possible before coming back into use on the university network. A patch tool www.lboro.ac.uk/it/desktop/reps-xp/patch-on-demand.html for this purpose is provided by IT Services.
Paperwork
It is important under the Microsoft Campus Agreement (www.lboro.ac.uk/it/software/msca.html) that we keep track of how many computers (not users) are using Microsoft Office.
